from the April - May Edition of the Holbrook Village Magazine
The Fete will be holding another Scarecrow Competition with prizes for individuals and organisations. The theme this year will be 'Nautical' and we would like to see our landlocked village festooned with pirates, mermaids, sea creatures, fish etc. To enter, display your scarecrow on your own land, making sure it is visible from the road by 6pm on Monday 4th July 2016. Judging will take place up to 9pm on Wednesday 6th July 2016. Winners will be announced at the Fete.
As the scarecrows are now a regular feature of the Village Fete, we would like to invite them to the Fete and join in the fun - you never know, Jack Sparrow could be looking for his next bunch of shipmates!
Once again a wide variety of stalls are expected including:
Variety of Craft Stalls; Variety of Charity Stalls; Stalls run by our Village Community Groups; Bar and BBQ Tent; Refreshments; Story Telling Tent
Whilst we make every effort not to charge an entrance fee, we would like to suggest that every adult attending in the evening makes a donation of £1.00 which will help to pay for the band.
Bungee Run; Archery; Bouncy Slide; Bargate Kestrels; Folk Frenzy; "Beans in the Bath"; Coconut Shy; Woody Wings; Ferrets
Adults and Children alike! We are running a fancy dress competition around the "nautical" theme and would like to invite all Villagers to dress up as either a Pirate or a Pirate "Princess". On the day "Jack Sparrow" will judge the best adult, boy and girl pirates. There will be prizes for the best!
Holbrook St Michael's Football Club has kindly agreed to provide car parking.
As usual, part of Mellors Lane will be closed for the duration of the Fete with access only for residents and stallholders (during the morning).
We will need help in the run-up to the day, to prepare the site and putting up tents on the Thursday and Friday and then taking it all down again on Sunday morning from 10 am.
Someone has to do the work for us all to have a great time. Can you be part of that effort and help spread the load? Please contact Carole (01332 880673 or by email - click here) with offers of help.
Update - 26 June 2017
We need help on Fete day (July 8th) to run the BBQ, from 12-5pm & 7-10pm. We're scheduling 1 hour slots for various tasks, from flipping burgers to serving customers. It really is great fun with a marvellous sense of camaraderie, which makes everyone welcome. Don't be shy, sign up here! Contact Stan Spencer on firstname.lastname@example.org
Get your creative hats on, the theme applies to both the Fancy Dress & Scarecrows. It could be Kings & Queens from royalty, popular culture, fairy-tales, music, film or anything else for that matter! See Facebook Page for more information. Scarecrows will need to be in your garden for judging between 4 and 5pm on Tuesday 4th July.
